HOW I DID ON LAST WEEK'S GOALS
I figured out the backstory and it helped me figure out some things in the main plot. I also did a bit of writing just to get the creative juices flowing. I still have more planning to do and some things to figure out before I officially start writing again but it feels good to have gotten what I wanted to do last week, finished (for the most part).

MY GOALS FOR THIS WEEK
Finish my note-taking. Answer any of the remaining questions I have about characters, plot etc. I also want to start thinking about how I want this story to end. I think that having an ending scene to work towards will motivate me to finish this even more.

A FAVORITE LINE FROM MY STORY OR ONE WORD/PHRASE THAT SUMS UP WHAT I WROTE/REVISED
"Before the night is out," she whispered, watching as one of the royal servants helped her father's new bride out of the carriage. "I'll have another heart for you, mother."

THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE I FACED THIS WEEK

Staying focused. I've been getting a lot of SNIs lately (because this always happens when I try to stick to one WIP). I'm really trying my hardest not to let myself get distracted so hopefully I'll be able to fight off any new character that pops into my head.

SOMETHING I LOVE ABOUT MY WIP
The diversity. When I decided to write this story, I wanted it to reflect our world culturally. While the places in the story that are inspired by different countries and continents don't match our map (and it's a whole lot smaller), I like being able to piece together different parts of our world to make up a new one.

I hope everyone had a productive week. Good luck with this one!

Omg - those SNIs are SO distracting, aren't they?! Also, I love that line! So intrigued!

I, too, have been thinking a lot about the end of my current WiP and wondering how it's going to end. I sometimes have that all figured out at the beginning and so it's equal parts scary and exciting to see where everything I'm writing is headed without truly knowing the destination.

Hope you have another great week!

Congrats on meeting your goals! And what on earth is a SNI?

That's a great line! Perfectly dark. My favourite :)

Having an ending in mind helps me keep the story on track, so I'm with you there. Hope you can figure it out and start getting even closer to it!

I always get distracted with SNIs, too! I just want to write all the books all the time, is that too much to ask??

And I loooove your excerpt. Reminds me of a dark Snow White.

Hope you have as much success this week as you did last! :)

Shiny new ideas can be so distracting. Good luck this week! :)

SNI=Shiny New Idea -- aha! Thank you for spelling that out. I hadn't heard this acronym before, but I'm very familiar with the concept. Deciding right now if I should start on a shiny new idea or revise something older (for July).

Endings are so tough. Many good wishes in brainstorming :)

That line alone makes me want to read more! Excellent! I had not heard the term SNI, but now I know how to label what happened to me last week.... I'm getting closer to the end of my WIP and suddenly I have a new idea that is calling. Probably best to resist the call for now and finish up my first one. To endings!

Oh pesky SNIs. Also I LOOOOVE the snippet/line you shared, Raven. Spooky and compelling I'm excited for you and can't wait to see where this book takes you. Fingers crossed you are able to meet all of your goals this summer.

I love the line you shared- it sounds somewhat similar to something I have going on in a WIP of mine too, although you never know until you read the whole thing!

I hear you on the SNIs, Raven. I have that same problem most of the time. Sounds like you got some key stuff accomplished this week (backstory is always important), so that's awesome. Hope this week is super productive! :D

Isn't focus just all our problems? It seems to be! Hopefully next week is better for this.

Freaky story, but I want to read more based on what you wrote!

Focus is so hard. I get distracted a lot. Sometimes I just take the time to write down my SNI in a notebook and comeback to it later. That way I don't lose it when I'm working on other projects.

I am the same way. It's hard not to shift to a new idea. I'm like focus Amy focus. Have a great writing week!

@Alison - SNIs ARE very distracting and pretty and...sigh. If only I could clone myself and assign each version of me a project to work on. There are so many possibilities when thinking about the ending. Good luck with figuring out your yours.

@Karyne - Thanks so much! And an SNI is an acronym for shiny new idea.:)

@Rebecca: Dark was exactly what I was going for and thank you!

@Crystal: My thoughts exactly! Life would be so much easier if we were able to write more than one story at the same time. Hehe and it's funny you say it reminds you of a dark Snow White because that's exactly what my wip is. I'm glad you got that from that one line. Makes me feel like I'm doing something right. :)

@Emma: They can be. Thanks!

@Stephsco: Thank you! And good luck to you too. :)

@Laurel: Thank you. And ooh being close to finishing a wip is exciting! I hope you're able to hold off that shiny new idea and finish. Good luck!

@Rachel: Wow, thank you! I hope you're able to meet your goals for the summer too.

@Melanie: Thank you!

@Jaime: Figuring out the backstory has been fun. It's helping me understand some things about wip, which is great.

@Dani: Unfortunately, it is. It'll be nice if it didn't have to be an issue but who said being a writer was easy? And thank you!

@Laboyden: I've been doing some research on how to handle SNIs and this seems like a popular thing to do. I might have to try this.

@Amy: Hehe, glad to know I'm not alone in this. And thanks. I hope your writing week goes well too.

Your snippet is creepy - I mean this in a good way :)

I'm always getting distracted by SNIs. Those suckers are pesky!

Hope you have a productive week!

I need to have an ending scene to work towards to keep everything in perspective along the way, so I hear you on that. Love the line you shared! Very creepy and intriguing! Good luck with your notes this week!
