What's Up Wednesday is a weekly meme started by Jaime Morrow and Erin Funk where writers post about what's up by answering four questions. If you want to participate go here.

WHAT I'M READING

I'm still reading Eyre House. Yes, I know I should be finished with it by now. I honestly don't know what's taking me so long to read it, but I am determined to finish it before the week is over. I have so many other books that I need to read.

WHAT I'M WRITING

Unfair is still coming along...slowly. But it's better to move at a slow pace than at no pace, I guess. 20K seemed like an easy enough goal to reach but for some reason I didn't reach it. I did, however, bring last week's wordcount (15,981) up to 18, 560. That's 2, 579 words for people who like numbers. So I guess that's not too bad. I'll try to do better this week though.

WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW

This post by Stacey Kade, Writing to the End of Your Story. There are a lot of times when I have doubts about my story, and times when I just want to start from scratch, start the story over and try to make everything perfect. I am a huge perfectionist but I know that if I don't keep moving forward, chances are I am going to get stuck and this story won't get told. So I'm going to try my best to write to the end of this story. First drafts don't have to be perfect. You can't fix a blank page (or Word doc) so it's better to get everything out first, and then work on fixing it later.

WHAT ELSE I'VE BEEN UP TO

  • There is a (small) part of me that wishes that summer vacation for me wasn't almost over but I honestly can't wait to go back to school. I'm eager to start sophomore year, see my friends again, and make so many new memories.
  •
  • I'm going to a baseball game next week. For those of you who follow baseball, then you know that the Pittsburgh Pirates have been doing really well this season. I get to spend the entire day with the team, which I'm excited about because I get to meet some of my favorite players and *crosses fingers* hopefully get autographs.
  • I was interviewed on DiversifYA! If you haven't heard of this blog, I highly recommend that you take a look at it. I'm glad that it exists because often times we label people but we don't care to think about how they see themselves, you know? I think the more we see people for who they are, instead of 'what' they are, the more we'll grow as a society.

Thanks for reading! What's going on with you guys?

That's a great word count! Best of luck with this upcoming week too :)

Aaaah, college. Sometimes I really miss those days. Enjoy every minute!

I miss school so much, so I can totally understand your eagerness to get back at it. Honestly, I'd just love a good excuse to buy school supplies and read textbooks. (I know, I'm weird.) That's so cool that you get to meet some baseball players. I'm not a baseball fan, but I am a hockey fan, and the Penguins are one of my two favourite teams. :)

You're making awesome progress on UNFAIR. Keep it up, Raven! :D

Great work upping your word count this week, good luck for next week!

I
Must read the article you linked to ad I always start to loathe my story about 3/4 of the way through. Then it is so hard to push on.

Have a good week!

That's so fun that you get to spend the day with the Pittsburgh Pirates! Now, if it was the Pittsburgh Penguins I'd be swooning all over the place. Like Jaime, the Pens are one of my favourite hockey teams. I hope it's an awesome day for you!

Writing has been on the slow side for me too lately, so don't feel badly about that. You're making great progress! Keep it up! :)

Awesome word count! That's awesome about spending all that time with the Pirates. Baseball's one of my favorite sports.

You're doing awesome, Raven! With your steady progress, you'll be done in no time! Have fun at the baseball game, and BIG CONGRATS on winning the Ready. Set. Write! giveaway. Well deserved, lady!

Slow and steady wins the race, so adding 2579 new words is definately valuable. You'll get to "The End" sooner than you think. And now, I'm going to go read your DiversifYA post, because I am super excited about this new site and can't wait to see what you wrote there.

The forward progress thing is something I struggle with all the time. I'm not a perfectionist in most things, but when it comes to writing, I can't help wanting to revise as I write. It's just always been my process, and while it works generally, it also makes it really easy to get stuck. Like you, I'm trying to keep in mind that sometimes you just have to get the story OUT before making it pretty. :)

The DiversifyYA blog is a great idea! Definitely going to check it out. Have fun at your baseball game, and good luck with Unfair! Trust, you are making way more progress than me. ;) (I haven't written A THING since last week - but I blame Comic Con.)

Thank you! And good luck with your writing this week.

I know I'm going to miss it when I graduate. It's so much better than high school and for that I am grateful.

Haha. That's not too weird. I have a couple of textbooks that I didn't mind reading.

I'm not a huge baseball fan. I prefer football because it's more exciting but I can't complain about getting free tickets/meeting the players. I LOVE the Penguins. I don't watch a lot of it, but they are a great team.

And thanks!:)

Thank you!

And I know how you feel. Sometimes I really just want to delete everything because I think it sucks but then I remind myself that I can fix all of the sucky things later, and push myself to keep going. It's so hard but hopefully it pays off in the end.

I hope you have a good week, too. :)

It would be great if I got to meet Sidney Crosby...I mean the Penguins. Haha. He's my favorite player, and he's so cute. I think if I got to meet him, there would be a lot of swooning involved.

And thank you! I hope your writing is going well this week. :)

Thank you!

And I think baseball is okay. I'm more of a football kind of gal. Baseball is a lot better when you're actually at the game, though. I get bored whenever I try to watch it on tv haha.

Thank you so much!

That seriously made my week! I'm so thankful for Ready. Set. Write! It helped me write way more than I thought I would write this summer.

I'm learning to be patient with this project. Part of me just wants to be done with it so I can revise and rewrite the parts that need to be fixed, but like you say, slow and steady will get me there sooner than I think. Thanks so much for the encouragement. It's much appreciated!

Also, thanks for reading my post!

Yeah, I'm only a perfectionist when it comes to writing. I tried revising while I wrote. It worked out sometimes but other times it didn't. It's hard to remember, but getting the story out first is all you should try to focus on when writing. I try to remind myself that daily.

Comic Con is a good reason not to write. I think my brain would explode from all the awesomeness. So take all the time you need getting back to writing, but I hope you at least get some words written. I'm so glad you had a great time at Comic Con. I really hope I get to go one day.

Thanks for stopping by. :)
