Whenever I sit down to write, I always read what I wrote during my last writing session to get myself in the zone, for the same reason you mention--familiarizing yourself with the voice and whatnot. I find the "write now, ed...keep working at it. I find the "write now, edit later" method works best for me. If I think of some big change I want to do that affects the beginning of the story, I write it down and save it for later. This keeps me from getting stuck in the first draft stage.
